Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu is facing requests for prison and political ban. The trial took place in front of the Silivri prison.

The prosecutor requested that İmamoğlu be sentenced to two years and eight months to seven years and four months for public insults and threats. A political ban was also requested.

The trial was attended by CHP leader Özgür Özel and party members. İmamoğlu was welcomed with supportive slogans during the trial.

İmamoğlu stated that the trial is connected to past accusations and that he will continue to seek justice.

İmamoğlu's lawyers requested additional time due to the late submission of the indictment. The trial has been postponed to July 16.
