Lake Van is showing the effects of climate change. Water levels are rapidly dropping, threatening local wildlife.

Drought and rising temperatures have led to significant water loss in Lake Van. Dr. Mustafa Akkuş from Van Yüzüncü Yıl University noted that the lake is a closed basin with no external water inflow.

In recent years, decreased rainfall and increased evaporation have caused the lake's water level to drop rapidly. This poses a significant threat to the local ecosystem.

Residents around the lake have observed the shoreline retreating kilometers due to the drop in water levels, which also negatively impacts agricultural lands.

Experts emphasize the need for urgent measures to prevent Lake Van from entering an irreversible process due to climate change and unplanned water usage.
