Lightning strikes are a common natural phenomenon, especially in summer. In Germany, the total damage caused by lightning has reached 16 billion TL, showing how destructive lightning can be.

With 220,000 damage reports made throughout the year in Germany, it is revealed that lightning-related damage occurs every 2.5 minutes. Insurance payments cover damaged roof surfaces and burnt electronics.

Jörg Asmussen, General Manager of the German Insurance Association, emphasized that technological transformation has played a role in the increase of damages. The rising costs of devices used today also increase the cost of damaged products.

In 2024, approximately 210,000 lightning strikes were recorded across Germany. This represents a significant increase compared to the 195,000 lightning incidents in 2023.
