Syrians Break Record in Acquiring German Citizenship

The number of Syrians acquiring citizenship in Germany is rapidly increasing!
Last year, 291,955 Syrians obtained German citizenship. This was made possible by the implementation of the dual citizenship law in Germany. The rate of citizenship acquisition among Syrians is significantly higher than that of Turks.
According to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, Syrians ranked first with 83,150 people obtaining citizenship, while Turks ranked second with 22,525. This situation highlights the rapid citizenship acquisition of Syrians compared to the long-standing Turkish community in Germany.
With the new law, the legal residence requirement for citizenship has been reduced from 8 years to 5 years, and for those meeting certain conditions, it can be as low as 3 years. These changes have facilitated the citizenship acquisition for Syrians.
