Greece Presents New Maritime Map in the Aegean Sea

Greece is preparing to present its 12-mile territorial waters map to the European Commission on April 27. This map will be an important document determining maritime jurisdiction in the Aegean Sea.
Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis argues that this map is a technical obligation rather than a geopolitical one, yet it will become a significant reference in international relations.

Greece's move to extend its territorial waters to 12 miles will make 71% of the Aegean Sea Greek territorial waters, significantly restricting Turkey's maritime areas.
Greece's recent military exercises have not included Turkey, and Greece is enhancing its military capabilities by purchasing defense missiles from Israel and France.

Greece will also mark the MEB agreements signed with Egypt and Italy on its new map. This will complicate maritime jurisdiction in the region even further.
Turkey emphasizes that Greece's attempts to extend its continental shelf will not have legal consequences and insists that issues should be resolved within the framework of international law.
