AKP's Strong Reaction to İmamoğlu! A Threat to Democracy

Hüseyin Çelik, one of the founders of AKP, strongly criticized the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. He described this situation as a threat to democracy.
In his statement on social media, Çelik emphasized that taking away the public's right to protest weakens democracy. He stated, "Implementing extraordinary measures without declaring a state of emergency is effectively martial law."
The cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma and his detention have created unrest not only in the opposition but also within AKP. Some AKP members believe this situation could harm them as well.
Çelik stated, "The people's will should not be challenged. The government must protect the rights of its political opponents." He also highlighted the negative impact of this situation on the economy.
Following İmamoğlu's detention, CHP has initiated a democracy vigil. The public's reaction and the right to protest are coming to the forefront during this process.
