AKP MPs and CHP's By-Election Strategies

Ali Mahir Başarır, CHP Group Vice President

The political agenda in Turkey is quite dynamic. CHP Group Vice President Ali Mahir Başarır stated that there could be losses in the number of MPs in the by-elections. This statement comes in light of recent detention orders and corruption investigations.

The investigations launched at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality have led to detention orders for 106 individuals, including Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Currently, 87 people are detained, while others are being sought.

Başarır emphasized that 'March 18 and March 19 will go down in Turkish democracy history as a dark stain', highlighting the citizens' right to protest against İmamoğlu's detention.

When asked about CHP's future, Başarır replied, 'If the CHP parliamentary group resigns completely, and it leads to an election result in Turkey, we would do it immediately.' However, he noted that under current conditions, if Turkey goes to a by-election, they would lose some MPs.

Preparations for the primary elections in CHP are also underway. Antalya Mayor Muhittin Böcek stated that transitioning to a parliamentary system is possible. The countdown for the primary elections has begun, scheduled for March 23.
