Contradictions Between CHP Mayors and AKP Practices

Mosque sales in Sakarya's AKP-run Serdivan Municipality.

Sakarya's Serdivan Municipality has put 9 mosques and 4 mosque sites up for sale due to rising debts. This decision was accepted with the votes of AKP members despite the rejection by CHP members.

Mayor Osman Çelik has utilized a budget of 1.2 billion TL by obtaining a credit authorization of 362 million 500 thousand TL over a 14-month period. However, this situation contradicts the mayor's own statements.

CHP Sakarya Provincial Chairman Oğuz Can Curoğlu pointed out the contradictions in the mayor's statements. This situation highlights the challenges faced by local governments.

In 2003, the then Minister of Finance Kemal Unakıtan had said to those opposing the privatization of Turkey's most profitable institutions, 'We will sell them like fathers.' These words have resurfaced in light of current practices.
