Natural Disaster in Adana: Lemon Production at Risk!

In Adana, extreme heat is creating a natural disaster effect, threatening lemon production.
Adana, which meets one-third of Turkey's citrus needs, is experiencing sunburn on lemons due to high summer temperatures. Cahit İncefikir, spokesperson for the Adana Agricultural Platform, stated that damage has reached up to 70%.
İncefikir emphasized that the damage to lemons and other citrus fruits should be included in TARSIM coverage and called on authorities to support farmers.

Last year's cold and this year's extreme heat have caused serious losses in citrus yields. For example, a 100-ton tree has suffered nearly 70 tons of loss.
High temperatures have also affected lemon prices. Lemons that were sold for 2 lira last year have risen to 25-30 lira this year.
It is expected that such events will increase due to climate change. Farmers are labeling this situation as a natural disaster and are seeking support.
