The fire hazard is on the agenda after the Marmara earthquake. Experts warn that gas leaks and explosions can lead to major disasters.

Fire Safety Expert Levent Yasa stated that while earthquake sensors exist in natural gas lines, the remaining gas in pipes poses a fire risk. He emphasized the need for industrial facilities in Istanbul to be prepared for potential fires after an earthquake.

Dr. Rüştü Uçan from Üsküdar University highlighted that gas leaks and electrical short circuits after an earthquake could lead to large-scale fires. Therefore, the widespread implementation of automatic gas shut-off systems at the building level is crucial.

Precautions to be taken after an earthquake include ensuring the safety of gas lines and checking the gas installations inside buildings. These measures are critical to prevent potential fires.
