Global Renewable Energy Capacity Increased by 58.1%

Global renewable energy capacity has increased by 58.1% in the last 5 years. This increase is particularly notable in solar energy plants.
According to the report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the installed capacity of solar energy plants increased by approximately 157.6% to reach 1865 gigawatts during the period of 2020-2024. Wind energy plants also saw a 54.4% increase, reaching 1133 gigawatts.
Turkey has surpassed the world average in renewable energy share, increasing its installed capacity by 40.8% during the 2020-2024 period. The country aims to increase the installed capacity of solar and wind energy to 120,000 megawatts by 2035.
The use of renewable energy sources is emerging as a significant step in combating climate change. Turkey has a determined roadmap in line with its 2053 Net Zero Emissions Target.
