Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu highlighted Turkey's economic crisis and poverty issues in his recent statements.

Imamoğlu, who is detained in Silivri Prison, stated, "The unlawful coup attempt against me and my colleagues deepens poverty." He noted that the poverty rate in Turkey is 30.4%.

He emphasized that Turkey ranks first in poverty in Europe and that ignoring this situation is not possible. "Our nation feels poverty every day," he stated.

Despite the government's social assistance, he pointed out that 22.6% of society is tested by hunger and poverty. He stressed that it is time to put an end to this situation.

Imamoğlu stated, "This understanding is a great betrayal to our nation," and emphasized the need to fight for the future of children and youth.
