Fire Disaster in Mersin: Over 15 Thousand Acres Turned to Ash

A fire disaster in Mersin has devastated over 15 thousand acres of forest. The fire began on August 13 in Silifke and was brought under control after intense efforts from the teams.
As a result of the fire, 984 households were evacuated and 1851 people were displaced. 53 houses were reported damaged, and four individuals have been arrested in connection with the fire.

The cause of the fire was identified as negligence by workers conducting welding for a water pipeline. An investigation is ongoing regarding the incident.

The Mersin Governorship announced that damage assessment efforts are ongoing, with the affected area estimated to exceed 15 thousand acres.
