Syrian Kurds Celebrate the Agreement with Enthusiasm

Syrian Kurds celebrated the eight-point agreement signed between the Syrian Interim Government and the SDF in the streets with enthusiasm. In Qamishli, the people showed their joy by driving around the streets with PKK flags and posters of Ocalan.

Speaking to the New York Times, 35-year-old Kurd Naleen Mohammed stated, "Making an agreement with Damascus is much better than fighting. We see what is happening to the Alawites in Latakia, we do not want the same thing to happen here."
The newspaper expressed concerns about how the agreement will be implemented, stating, "This could either be the beginning of lasting peace or the groundwork for a new conflict. Whether the Damascus administration will keep its promises will become clear over time."
