AKP Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank announced the Proton Acceleration and Radiopharmaceutical Facility to be opened in Gaziantep in 2020, but significant developments have emerged regarding this facility.

Varank promoted this facility as a healing investment for cancer patients. However, the Court of Accounts reports revealed that the facility remains idle.

According to the Court of Accounts' 2024 Audit Report for Gaziantep University, the facility, which cost 46.6 million TL, has not yet become operational due to a lack of sufficient personnel and operating capital.

CHP member Ugur Kalkan emphasized that this situation is a significant waste. The lack of progress on the project and the authorities' negligence were criticized.

Kalkan stated that without the Court of Accounts report, no one would be aware of these expenditures. He expressed that they will continue to follow up on the issue.
