An important development occurred in the Buket Apartment case!

The Buket Apartment in Hatay collapsed during the February 6 earthquakes, claiming 94 lives. Contractor Hikmet Günsay was released due to long detention. The court ruled that the detention was no longer a proportional and reasonable measure.

Günsay continues to be detained in the case of the Atilla Eren Apartment, which resulted in the deaths of 219 people. This situation has sparked significant public outcry.

The court noted that Günsay's detention period was approaching the legal limit. This decision was made due to concerns that it might exceed the reasonable time specified in the European Convention on Human Rights.

During the hearing, Hikmet Günsay defended himself by stating that he built the building with qualified professionals and believed he was not at fault. This case has also brought attention to the lack of oversight in Turkey's construction industry.
