Germany's Budget Stance and Relations with the European Union

Germany is opposing the proposed budget for the European Union for the period 2028-2034. The government finds the increase to 2 trillion euros unacceptable.
The German government criticized the proposed increase of approximately 700 billion euros by the EU Commission, stating that such an increase is unacceptable given the efforts of all member states to consolidate their budgets.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that this budget is suitable for Europe's goals and sufficient to face challenges. However, Germany's stance against these proposals is noteworthy.
Germany's budget deficit for 2024 has risen to approximately 119 billion euros. This situation arises despite an increase in public revenues, as expenditures have also significantly increased.
Germany's budget deficit, which had been consistently surplus before the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to rise again. This situation is linked to calls for increased defense spending and economic recovery.
